Professional Interests: Research:
Eric Duell studies cancer susceptibility by investigating
the interaction of inherited genetic variation (single
nucleotide polymorphisms and haplotypes) with environmental
exposures. He is currently studying genetic susceptibility
in sporadic pancreas cancer by investigating the interaction
of genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair, cell-cycle,
and inflammation genes with exposures such as tobacco
smoking, alcohol consumption, and dietary factors.
He is actively involved in an international research
consortium of pancreatic cancer that has as one of
its goals the pooling of data and samples for a whole-genome
association study. He also is conducting a population-based
case-control study of lung cancer in New Hampshire
and Vermont. The primary goals of this study are to
investigate the roles of arsenic, wood smoke, second-hand
smoke, genetic susceptibility and interactions in the
incidence of lung cancer in women and men from our
local community. In the areas of spatial and environmental
epidemiology, he is working on collaborative projects
to investigate the spatial distribution of human cancers
in relation to household radon and other environmental
factors in New Hampshire.
